Your help requested
I would appreciate your help with the two requests below:
1) Visting Realtor from Jacksonville Florida is coming to Seattle for the week of the 4th of July. Along with some recommendations of good restaurants, he is asking for some suggestions of what to do when in town that might interest his two sons age 10 and 15. I have all girls and we always shop! I haven’t a clue what 10 and 15 year old boys like to do in Seattle. Looking for Rain City Fans to come to the rescue with some suggestions of what restaurants and activities you might suggest for “Bill and his boys”.
2) “Newly married Martie” is off on her honeymoon and landing here on May 4. She needs a rental, two bedroom house that will allow two dogs. Price range about $1,200 a month. Her new husband will be taking a job at the airport, so way out of my area. Around here a lot of rentals have signs in the windows or on the lawn and I write them down as I walk by to help people who are looking for rentals. There is just no good one central place for rental info, especially when you want a house and have two dogs. So anyone who spots a rental that might meet these requirements, please post the info so she can check in here when she arrives in town after her honeymoon.

That’s right, Tim! I probably WILL have a big 4th of July bash. I’m pretty sure you can see 7 sets of fireworks from my house. Last year we joined the crowd on the lake in Downtown Kirkland, which is a short walk from my house. Fireworks might be more exciting down at the Space Needle though.
Yes, I do think boys would like a Ferry ride! Thanks. When we get a few more comments, I’ll send Bill over here to take notes.

Most teenage boys like video games, so Gameworks would probably be a safe choice.

I have two boys and they like to visit the Ballard Locks, Fremont Troll, Experience Music Project and any of the city parks that they can run, run, run. Also, anything on the waterfront is fun- with dinner at the end at The Spaghetti Factory.

I would suggest the Museum of Flight and/or a tour of the 747 plant in Everett.

This is great! Keep it coming! What about the Experience Music Project? I think my partner, Kim Harris is in there somewhere. Either for Easy Street Records or Queensryche.

EMP would work. Also don’t forget the Needle… Underground tour… Standard tourist fare, but they would be interesting for a Floridian (or a Texan for that matter).
The weekend after the 4th is the Chinatown-International District Summer Festival.
I’ve never been in Seattle during the summer, so I have no idea what Seafair events are like..

My two boys enjoyed the climbing walls at Marymoor Park. Also, great mountain bike trails around Tiger Mountain.
Blake Island is fun at the Indian Longhouse if they want a taste of the native. Greenlake amd Lake Samm have great hydro raising that’s lots of fun to watch. And don’t forget the cycledome at Marymoor.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time out of their schedules to post here. A special thanks to Ardell for keeping in contact with me and letting me know of the response on raincityguide.com.
I’m sure my family will want to do all of the things suggested here. Any suggestions for a good, local, non-touristy restaurant that the “locals” frequent?
Thanks again and best regards,

“Newly married Martie” is arriving today. As a courtesy to an RCG reader relocating here, we have gathered as many options as we could and assigned an agent to assist her in getting acclimated to the area and see rental houses. If anyone spots any rental houses in the $1,000 to $1,200 range that we might have missed, let us know ASAP. We found at least two that will allow the cat and dog (apparently one of her dogs is a cat ![]()

New Married Martie wrote about her relocation experience. I love this Man on the Street kind of stuff. Great perspective.

If the boys like sports, the Mariners are in town that week. Depending upon where they stay in Seattle, there are lots of things to see and do. Waterfront, Ferry’s, food, Seattle Center Imax theater, downtown shops. Weather nice then take a day trip up to Mountains or… if weather cooperates, I hear Ardell makes a mean BBQ at her place.
